Minhang District

Minhang is both a residential and industrial district located south of Shanghai’s city center. Minhang is a center in Shanghai for aerospace, electrical, mechanical and chemical industries. Supposedly the first steam generator was produced here.

In recent years, the district has sparked a lot of foreign investment interest, and in 2008, multiple companies among the world’s top 500 had invested in projects in Minhang. The interest of foreign companies has led to the development of a fairly large expat community.

In 2001, each of Shanghai’s suburban districts were assigned an international theme for restoring an old water town. Pujiang was Minhang’s town with an Italian theme. Designed by an Italian architecture firm, the buildings in the town are meant to look like modern Italian buildings inspired by ancient Italian and Chinese architecture.

The Qizhong Forest Sports City Arena, or Qizhong Stadium, is also located in Minhang. The stadium was built for the tennis ATP World Finals, and it has also hosted an NBA game between the Orlando Magic and Cleveland Cavaliers during a China tour.

Minhang is relatively close to the city center but provides the relaxing atmosphere of a suburb, making it a perfect district for international families who enjoy life at a moderate pace.
